Place of Performance: Hybrid – Washington, DC Metro Area (IRS facilities and approved remote work locations)
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required
Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain an IRS Moderate Background Investigation (MBI)/Public Trust.
About the role:
You will build the pipelines and automation that let API changes and Kong configuration reach production safely and the same way every time. Your work turns manual onboarding steps into self service, with security checks built in.
What you will do:
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that test, scan and deploy API and Kong gateway configuration through IRS environments.
- Manage gateway and platform configuration as code in Git, with peer review and versioned releases.
- Write infrastructure as code and configuration automation for OpenShift and cloud resources.
- Add security and validation checks to every pipeline so nothing reaches production without passing them.
- Automate repeatable onboarding tasks, such as consumer setup, certificate updates and policy changes, toward self service.
- Connect pipelines to IRS change control and ticketing, including ServiceNow records and Change Advisory Board (CAB) approvals.
- Script daily configuration backups and support quarterly restore tests.
- Document pipelines and hand over knowledge to the operations team.
What you bring:
- 3+ years in DevOps, DevSecOps, build and release, or platform automation.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines in a tool such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or Azure DevOps.
- Infrastructure as code or configuration management with a tool such as Terraform, Ansible or Helm.
- Working knowledge of containers, Kubernetes or OpenShift, and Linux.
- Scripting in Bash and Python.
- Familiarity with code, dependency or container image scanning.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to obtain and keep an IRS Moderate Background Investigation (MBI); you must meet IRS suitability and residency requirements.
Nice to have:
- Experience automating API gateway configuration, such as Kong decK or webMethods deployments.
- Work in a federal change controlled environment.
- ServiceNow integration experience.
- A DevOps, Kubernetes or cloud certification, or Security+.
- An active IRS MBI or prior IRS work.
