About Span
Span exists to help engineering organizations turn AI adoption into real effectiveness. As AI tools reshape how software gets built, the companies that continuously improve how their teams use AI in their day-to-day will pull ahead. We're the AI-native developer intelligence platform built for that moment. We're looking for people who want to shape how the next generation of high-performing engineering orgs operate.
We're a Series A company with a small, focused team that moves fast and ships things that matter. We’re proud to be helping forward-thinking orgs like Ramp, Carvana, Intercom, and OpenTable. We're honored to be backed by dozens of founders, CTOs, and CPOs we admire from Slack, Notion, Rippling, Fivetran, Coda, Adobe, and Square, as well as funds including Alt Capital, BoxGroup, Bling, Craft, and SV Angel.
About the Role
We're looking for a DevOps Engineer to help build, scale, and maintain the infrastructure that powers Span.
You'll work closely with our engineering team to ensure our systems are reliable, secure, performant, and built to scale. From automating deployments and improving CI/CD pipelines to managing cloud infrastructure and strengthening observability, you'll play a critical role in making it easier for our engineers to build and ship great software.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, eliminating operational friction, and building systems that enable engineering teams to move faster.
What You'll Do
Own and scale our infrastructure: Design, build, and maintain reliable, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure to support our growing platform.
Improve CI/CD pipelines: Build and optimize automated build, testing, and deployment workflows to help engineers ship quickly and confidently.
Automate everything: Identify opportunities to eliminate manual processes through infrastructure as code, scripting, and automation.
Strengthen reliability and observability: Implement and improve monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident response processes to ensure system health and availability.
Optimize performance and costs: Monitor infrastructure utilization, identify inefficiencies, and improve performance while managing cloud costs.
Build secure systems: Partner with engineering and security stakeholders to implement infrastructure security best practices, access controls, and compliance requirements.
Enable developer productivity: Create tools, processes, and infrastructure that reduce friction and improve the developer experience.
Support production operations: Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, investigate incidents, and implement long-term improvements.
Collaborate across engineering: Work closely with software engineers to support new features, architectural decisions, and evolving infrastructure needs.
What We're Looking For
4+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, or a similar infrastructure-focused role.
Strong experience managing cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or CircleCI.
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, Go, or similar languages.
Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and observability solutions.
Strong understanding of networking, Linux systems, cloud security, and infrastructure best practices.
Experience troubleshooting production systems and improving reliability.
A proactive, ownership-driven mindset with the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving environment.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to solving technical challenges.
Nice to Have
Experience working at an early-stage or high-growth startup.
Experience supporting SaaS platforms or data-intensive applications.
Familiarity with AI/ML infrastructure, workloads, or deployment patterns.
Experience with customer-managed cloud environments, including Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) architectures.
Experience with SOC 2 compliance and infrastructure security controls.
Familiarity with distributed systems, databases, and high-volume data processing.
Experience building internal developer platforms or self-service infrastructure tooling.
