Blockstream was founded in 2014 by Dr. Adam Back and a group of fellow cryptographers and engineers who are passionate about Bitcoin and its potential to change the world. Today, Blockstream is the leading Bitcoin company, providing cutting-edge infrastructure solutions for enterprises, institutions, and individual Bitcoin users. We develop industry-leading Bitcoin self-custody solutions, Bitcoin-based financial products, second-layer scaling technologies, and enterprise-grade blockchain infrastructure.
We are seeking a DevOps Engineer, responsible for building, automating, and operating secure blockchain and digital asset infrastructure for enterprise and institutional clients. This role focuses on deploying and operating production-grade platforms using infrastructure-as-code, automation, and security-first practices tailored for regulated financial services environments.
Within the Service & Enterprise Solutions organization, the DevOps Engineer works closely with Solution Architects, Delivery, Product, and Engineering teams to build and operate resilient infrastructure. This role ensures blockchain solutions are secure, scalable, observable, and operationally sound for banking and institutional environments.
What You’ll Be Doing (Responsibilities):
Build and operate cloud infrastructure for blockchain platforms in banking, custody, payments, and digital asset environments
Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment, testing, and release management
Deploy and manage infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation
Operate containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes
Configure and manage environments across AWS, Azure, hybrid, and on-premise deployments
Implement security hardening, secrets management, encryption, and access controls
Build and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or CloudWatch
Support production deployments, go-live activities, and incident response
Collaborate with Solution Architects to ensure infrastructure meets security, compliance, and architectural requirements
Contribute to reusable infrastructure patterns, automation frameworks, and operational documentation
What We Look for In You (Required Qualifications):
3–6 years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, SRE, or infrastructure operations roles
Hands-on experience building and operating infrastructure in fintech, financial services, or other regulated environments
Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred; Azure and/or GCP a plus)
Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or ArgoCD
Strong experience with infrastructure-as-code tools including Terraform, Ansible, or Pulumi
Solid scripting skills in Python, Bash, Go, or similar languages
Experience operating Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration platforms
Strong understanding of security, networking, and compliance requirements in regulated environments
Self-starter with proven ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and geographies, demonstrating high-quality and high-touch customer engagement throughout all phases of delivery
Ability to collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, delivery teams, and client technical stakeholders
Languages: English required; Swiss German, German, French or Italian a plus
Location: Switzerland, with focus on Zurich and Lugano
Nice To Haves (Preferred Qualifications):
Experience operating blockchain infrastructure (Bitcoin nodes, Lightning Network, or similar)
Familiarity with distributed systems and blockchain-specific operational requirements
Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or ELK
Knowledge of service mesh, API gateways, or load-balancing technologies
Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator)
Interest in progressing into Senior DevOps Engineer or SRE leadership roles
Genuine interest in Bitcoin, digital assets, and blockchain-based financial infrastructure
